Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, done with Advance Steel by Elea iC

Chemistry in Slovenia has a long history, and the University of Ljubljana was established on July 23th, 1919. The first courses in chemistry at the tertiary level and research work started in the academic year 1919 / 1920 at the Technical Faculty. Issued from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology was officially established on December 21st, 1994.

The project is a new building for library and several large lecture rooms at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana, in Slovenia. Apart from the fact that the dimensions of this project are impressive, the main difficulty is that the outside shape of the roof has an elliptical shape with all columns being inclined. The steel columns are connected with single span girders at mid-height and on roof level, forming two storeys.

Elea iC is an international company and have offices situated in different locations across Slovenia with their headquarters in Ljubljana. They are one of the largest interdisciplinary providers of engineering services in Slovenia and they employ 55 permanent and 15 part time employees. They specialize in structures and structural engineering, and also in tunnel and civil engineering.

Elea iC adopted Advance Steel since 2008, and they now have 3 seats of Advance Steel inside their engineering office.

Elea iC used Advance Steel to model in 3D the complete steel structure for this building which means a structure weight of 783 tons with dimensions of 59.30 × 26.20 × 16.00 m, and to automatically get all workshop drawings ready for fabrication.
